One rainy afternoon, a little dog was sitting alone under a big tree.
His name was Max. He was brown and white, with big sad eyes.

"Where is my home?" Max said softly. "I want to go home."
A girl named Emma was walking home from school. She saw the little dog under the tree.
"Hello, little dog," Emma said. "Are you lost?"

Emma took off her raincoat and put it around the little dog. Then she picked up her phone and called her mom.
"Mom, I found a lost dog. Can we help him?"

The next day, Emma's mom called the animal center. They found Max's owner — a boy named Tom who lived just three streets away!
Tom was so happy to see Max again. "Thank you so much!" Tom said to Emma. "You are a wonderful friend."
