📖 Story Time

The small stream began at the top of Blue Mountain. It was so narrow that a frog could jump across it in one leap. A little boy named Leo stood beside it and watched the water sparkled in the morning sun.

"This stream is so tiny," Leo said to his grandmother. "How can it become a river?"

Grandmother smiled. "Watch. Water is patient."

Leo sat on a warm stone and waited. He counted the bugs on the surface. He watched a dragonfly zip past. He spotted tiny fish darting under a rock.

After one hour, the stream was still small. After two hours, it was still small.

"I will come back tomorrow," Leo said.

He came back the next morning, and the next, and the next. Each day, the stream grew a little wider. More stones appeared in its path. The water moved faster and pushed over the rocks.

On the fifth day, Leo saw something he had never seen before. A turtle was swimming in the stream! The stream had grown enough for a turtle to live in it.

On the tenth day, a blue heron came to fish. The stream had become wide enough for a tall bird to stand in the water.

"Why did this happen?" Leo asked his grandmother.

"Because the stream never stopped flowing," she replied. "Every day, tiny drops of water joined from the mountain. Each drop was small, but together they became a river."

By the end of the summer, the stream had become a real river. Fish swam in its deep parts. Willow trees grew along its banks. Frogs sang songs from the rushes at night.

Leo sat by the river and smiled. He understood now what his grandmother had meant.

🌏 Translation

Leo

💭 Think About It

The stream began at the top of Blue Mountain.
Leo sat on a warm stone.
He counted the bugs.

动词变化规则: - 大多数动词:+ed(worked, watched, counted) - 以e结尾的动词:只加 d(sparked → sparkled, lived → lived) - 不规则动词:需要特别记忆(is/are → was/were, go → went, see → saw)

Water is patient.
A frog can jump across it.
The stream grows wider every day.

1. Leo ______ (sit) on the stone and ______ (wait).(过去时) 2. Water ______ (be) patient.(现在时) 3. Yesterday, the stream ______ (be) very narrow.(过去时) 4. Every day, the stream ______ (grow) wider.(现在时)

Answers: 1. sat, waited 2. is 3. was 4. grows
